ALICK BROWN
BORN 1983

Born into a working class Islington family, spending my school years through the end of Thatcher, Major then the Blair years I felt and saw the re birth of London, where once Islington was a playground of abandoned buildings and waste grounds by the end it was a pleasure town of wealth. In this race for change the city and I changed almost hand in hand, the pursuit of pleasure over depth, to react rather than reflect was the norm.

My education was an average experience, education always being more off a social rather than a intellectual pursuit, chanting the mantra of tick the box, be a Cog. This sums up the rest of my time in formal education, living was for the evenings and weekends, by 1997 I was a fixture on the Soho circuit, a world where the rabbit hole was as deep as you wanted, Drink, Drugs and Sex the order of the day, carnal rather than meaningful. Throughout the following decade the illusion slowly loses its lustre, nothing is constant, always changing, for better or worse.

Throughout I always showed a like for culture and art, although never truly professionally or academically encouraged the making of art has been the constant throughout my years, with time it has become a way of dealing with myself, to make sense of the past, now and what is to come.

Time shows things as they truly were, for better or worse, it is us who must choose to face them and learn or continue down the rabbit hole.
